September 8th 2024 NFAS Open Shoot

Shoot Report

The forecast for the day was wet to extreme wet with a gentle topping of wind and storms. It was a close call to go ahead, but a check showed it would be difficult but safe.

The club battened down the tea tent in preparation for the elements.

The WFA team were smaller than usual due to regular members planned and unplanned absences. The number of archers was also down on normal expected numbers. We assume the weather and holiday season had an impact on that.

We opened at the normal times but with cars not arriving as usual, a few club members were "thinking should we have cancelled", then people started to turn up and the normal procession of collect score cards,  bacon butties and coffee, and meet up chats while waiting for the start time brought a lot of smiles.

Then we were away, brief, walk outs, and go to start the days archery.

Feedback suggested the targets were well placed but with the bad weather were sometimes difficult to make out (due to actually being in the clouds), but that added to the challenge.

The weather started to turn during the morning and the rain stopped and even the sun came out for a while.

The Archers wished they had not worn so many clothes continued to have a great day with great food being dispatched from the tea tent.

Towards the end of the day the rain started again but not heavy enough to dampen the spirts during the medal ceremony.

One of the categories required to count back to the number of 20's to decide 2nd and 3rd place as they were equal on score and spots.

Interesting to see the numbers in each style too.

Overall, a great day’s archery was had only slightly upset by the weather.  The club  is looking forward to our next shoot in the spring hopefully nice and dry.

Thank you to all who attended either to shoot or help run.
